Special Police Officer
. As a Special Police Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the security and safety of all campus buildings, persons, and property, assistance in crisis management, enforcement of the rules and regulations of the college, as well as enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.

Role Responsibility:
Patrol campus (vehicle, bicycle and foot), ensure buildings are secure, and enforce parking regulations
Respond to campus emergency, priority, and routine calls for service
Serve as a liaison between campus and off-campus emergency services
Contribute to campus safety by providing vehicle escorts and various crime prevention measures, including the locking and unlocking of campus buildings
Interview persons who are involved in or who witness incidents/crimes committed on campus
Write comprehensive incident reports, conduct investigations take photos when necessary, and seize contraband when necessary
Stop vehicles and/or pedestrian traffic to inspect university identification or other identification (e.g. driver's license or MA ID card) prior to entering or remaining on the campus
Orient, guide, and provide information to visitors, students, faculty and staff
Enforce the university rules with firmness, fairness, and impartiality; deal with the public in a professional manner
The Ideal Candidate:
Education, Licenses and Certifications Required
Must have high school diploma or equivalent
Must have successfully completed a Massachusetts reserve and intermittent police academy or a full-time Massachusetts campus or municipal police academy
Must possess a current and valid driver's license
Type and Length of Specific Experience Required
A minimum of one year of experience in law enforcement, campus security, or related field in residential higher education environment
Skills Required
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the use of technology such as computer access control programs and smart phones
Effective oral and written communication skills
Active listening skills
Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
Ability to mediate conflict with tact, diplomacy

Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age
Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
Must not use illegal drugs. Must be able to pass a drug test with negative results (except when undergoing documented medical treatment).
Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks if applicable
Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Environment:
Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold and heat, as well as loud noises. Involves moderate exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety.

Standing, walking, running. Must be able to defend community members and one's self from attack or physical assault, and respond (e.g., run across campus or upstairs) to calls for service, alarms, or other emergencies. Must be able to assist with uncooperative or incapacitated individuals.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
