Compliance Examiner (Mid-Career), CG-570-11

Conducts compliance examinations/reviews/audits at financial institutions for technical compliance with federal consumer protection laws and evaluates compliance management systems, including Board and management oversight, policies and procedures, training, monitoring/audit, and consumer complaint response programs. Conducts fair lending reviews at financial institutions to determine if the bank engages in discriminatory lending practices. Evaluates financial institutions' performance pursuant to the Community Reinvestment Act. Conducts meetings with bank officials and/or boards of directors to gather information and discuss examination/review/audit findings and obtain commitment for corrective actions. Prepares written reports summarizing examination/review/audit findings. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Experience:
To qualify based on experience, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG/GS-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience conducting assessments of banking operations of financial institutions to determine compliance with consumer protection and fair lending laws and regulations and/or the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). OR EDUCATION:
To qualify based on education, applicants must possess a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent degree) or 3 years of progressively higher level full-time graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.M. in the following major field of study:
accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing or other fields related to the position. This education includes 24 semester hours in business administration, accounting, finance, marketing, economics, mathematics, or statistics with at least 6 semester hours in accounting. Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the CG/GS-11 level. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
