This position is located in Springfield Ma within the Division of Resources and Facilities Programs at Springfield Armory National Historic Site, within the Division of Facilities, Natural & Cultural Resources.The primary purpose of the position requires mainly physical ability and effort of varying difficulty to accomplish a series of assigned tasks necessary to maintain park grounds and restroom facilities which require little or no specialized skill; however, work does require skill to operate common handheld tools and power equipment. Mow lawns using industrial, walking-type power mowers (e.g., a fixed or floating cutting deck(s) with limited adjustments) and/or riding-type mowers (e.g. one or more cutting decks, mechanical controls, and attachable implements), adjust blades, string trimmers, and assures the machinery is well oiled and clean. Routinely check filters and fluids and advises of any needed repairs. Reports damages to Facility Manager.Trim weeds and grass from around walls, walks, poles and trees using manual and power tools; may be required to pull weeds and grass by hand. Water trees and shrubbery as necessary; rakes leaves and collects fallen branches; cuts vegetation using axe, handsaw and/or pruners. Manually collects trash from park grounds daily. Loads and unloads trash and debris from receptacles. May assist buildings journeyman trade employees with projects related to carpentry, plumbing and painting as well as helping with custodial duties.Must have a valid state driver's license. Required to operate on a regular and recurring basis light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material, or equipment. All qualification must be met by the closing date of the announcement. A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience for this position include:
operating lawn mowers, chains saws/chippers, hand and light power tools, and light motor vehicles. Load and unload supplies and materials; move furniture, paint, install signs; rake and water lawns and trim trees and bushes; pick up litter, clean and repair. .You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints). Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Dexterity and safety. Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order). The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
